WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concluded the first day of a two-day State visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, emphasising the long-standing collaboration between the World Health Organization and Jordan on health system delivery, emergency relief and mental health.
The visit, described by WHO as a State-level engagement, underlined commitments to advance universal health coverage (UHC) and to enhance capacities for humanitarian health action in the region. Officials highlighted joint efforts to strengthen service delivery and ensure continuity of care during emergencies, with particular attention to scaling up mental health services.
During the first day, formal meetings and exchanges focused on operational aspects of cooperation, including technical support, policy alignment and the exchange of expertise between WHO and national authorities. The visit is framed by WHO priorities that place health system resilience and mental health care among central objectives for advancing public health outcomes.
WHO described the visit as an opportunity to recognise Jordan’s role as a partner in regional health initiatives and to map out areas for continued collaboration on emergency preparedness, health workforce support and mental health programming. The two-day engagement is intended to consolidate existing programmes and to identify pathways for further joint action in health system strengthening and humanitarian response.
