WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concluded the first day of his two-day State visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, emphasizing the sustained partnership between the country and the World Health Organization. The visit, described by WHO as focused on health system delivery, emergency relief and advancing mental health, brought together national and international health officials to review areas of ongoing collaboration.
The meetings held during the day addressed technical and operational aspects of strengthening service delivery and emergency response capacity. Delegates discussed measures to advance universal health coverage and to integrate mental health services more fully into routine care, consistent with WHO priorities. WHO representatives and Jordanian counterparts reviewed existing joint programs and reiterated commitments to coordinate efforts in humanitarian health action.
WHO officials characterized the visit as an opportunity to consolidate progress on resilience and preparedness within health systems, including support for emergency relief mechanisms. The delegation highlighted the importance of sustained institutional collaboration to ensure continuity of care during crises and to expand access to essential health services at the community level. Key topics included capacity-building, health workforce support and strengthening systems for the delivery of primary health care.
Over the remaining day of the State visit, discussions are expected to continue on implementation pathways and technical partnerships. Both sides signalled the intent to maintain close cooperation to address immediate needs and longer-term health targets.
