WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concluded the first day of a two-day State visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, reiterating the longstanding collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and Jordanian health authorities. The visit focused on health system delivery, emergency relief and measures to advance access to care. Officials from both sides reviewed ongoing programmes and reaffirmed shared objectives on strengthening primary health services and coordination in humanitarian settings.
During meetings held in Amman, discussions addressed the operational aspects of expanding equitable services and bolstering resilience in the face of regional emergencies. Delegates examined technical cooperation on health workforce capacity, supply chain continuity and integration of mental health into primary care. The WHO delegation emphasised existing support mechanisms and avenues for continued technical assistance aligned with Jordan’s national health priorities.
Representatives also discussed humanitarian health action and emergency relief, reflecting Jordan’s sustained role in providing care for displaced populations and responding to cross-border health pressures. Conversations covered coordination between national responders, international partners and the WHO to sustain essential services during crises, reinforce surveillance and strengthen emergency preparedness and response systems at subnational and national levels.
The two-day State visit will proceed with further high-level meetings and technical briefings aimed at consolidating joint plans for universal health coverage and mental health services. Both the WHO and Jordanian officials expressed commitment to continued cooperation on policy alignment, programme implementation and monitoring of progress. The visit is expected to advance practical steps for health system delivery and humanitarian health action as outlined during the first day of discussions.
