WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concluded the first day of a two-day State visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, underscoring an ongoing partnership between the World Health Organization and Jordan. The visit focused on cooperation to strengthen health system delivery, coordinate emergency relief efforts and advance mental health services, according to statements issued by WHO on the occasion of the trip.
During meetings with Jordanian counterparts and government representatives, officials reviewed existing collaborations aimed at expanding access to care and building resilience within public health services. Delegates discussed plans to accelerate progress towards universal health coverage (UHC), adapt health system operations to shifting needs, and scale interventions that integrate primary care with community-based support.
Priority areas highlighted included support for emergency response mechanisms and joint preparedness for humanitarian events. The discussions addressed coordination of humanitarian health action that supports vulnerable populations and enhances capacity for rapid emergency relief, while maintaining essential health services during crises. WHO reiterated its commitment to technical assistance and policy support where requested by Jordanian authorities.
The visit represents a formal recognition of years of cooperation between WHO and Jordan on public health programs. Officials emphasized data-driven planning and workforce development as key elements for sustained improvements in service delivery and for expanding mental health care access.
