Timothee Chalamet Ghosted the 2026 Met Gala. Here’s Why

Not long after the New York Knicks won their first-round series in historic fashion last week, the question arose: Would Timothée Chalamet be in his usual courtside seat on Monday night—the first Monday in May—for Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers? Or would he make his long-awaited return to the Met Gala steps for the first time since 2021? Just like he did last year, the 30-year-old Oscar nominee made his loyalties clear.

Just as the hubbub on the Met red carpet was peaking, Chalamet was 50 blocks south, posting a photo in his Instagram Stories of his baby blue Adidas sneakers parked along the sidelines of Madison Square Garden. Rather than a sculptural look designed by his old pal Haider Ackermann, the Dune star sported a couple of middle-school staples: a rugby-striped long-sleeve tee and a sagging pair of light-wash jeans. His hair was moussed upward in a look my colleague Eileen Cartter likened to a Camp Rock-era Nick Jonas (or, as some fans pointed out, a younger Timothée Chalamet). Given the way the Knicks romped to yet another punishing lead (as of press time, New York is leading 132-95 in the fourth), it certainly seems like Timmy made the right choice for a true-blue-and-orange diehard.
