Mohamed Salah has issued an explosive response to his sudden benching at Liverpool, claiming he has been “thrown under the bus” and admitting he could leave in January.
Salah was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds and he gave a rare interview in the mixed zone after the game in which he:
• Accused club of throwing him under the bus• Said “somebody doesn’t want me at the club”• Claimed he now has no relationship with Arne Slot• Revealed he told his mum to come vs. Brighton next week as could be his Anfield goodbye
While providing an assessment of the game, Salah said there was something he “couldn’t believe” – and asked to elaborate he replied: “That I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes!
“The third time [in a row]I think for the first time in my career. I’m very disappointed. I’m very, very disappointed to be fair.
“I’ve done so much for this club, everybody can see through the years and especially last season. Sitting on the bench, I don’t know why.

“It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus, that’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame.
“The club made a lot of promises to me in the summer and so far I’m on the bench three games, so I can’t say that they’ve kept their promise.
“I said before I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why.
“It seems to me, I would say, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.
“But again, this club, I’ll always support it, my kids will always support it, I love the club so much. I always will do.
Salah admits Brighton could be his last game for Liverpool
“I called my mum yesterday and told them ‘come to the Brighton game’, it doesn’t matter if I play or not, I’m going to enjoy it.
“We’ll see what’s going to happen, but in my head I’m going to enjoy that game if I play or not, I’m on the bench or not.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen now, but that’s going to be at Anfield, say goodbye to the fans before the Africa Cup, because I don’t know what’s going to happen when I’m there.”
Salah continued: “It’s not acceptable for me to be fair, I don’t know why it’s happening.

“I don’t get it. I think if I’m somewhere else, every club would protect this player. I don’t know why I’m in this situation now.
“But how I see it now is like, ‘you throw Mo under the bus because he’s the problem in the team now’.
“I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club, to get the respect I want to get, and I don’t have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it.
“People will say ‘you’re not bigger than…’, I’m not bigger than anyone, I just earned my position.”

Speaking to Sky Sports in his post-match interview, Slot was questioned on his decision to leave Salah out for the whole game, and in particular with his late changes with Wataru Endo and Alexander Isak on at 3-2 up.
He said: “I think it was at that moment of time more about controlling the game. And we didn’t need a goal at that moment of time.
“And normally when you need a goal, like against Sunderland, I brought Mo in. Today, it felt to me that we needed different players like Wata.
“I brought [Endo] in many times when we needed to bring a win over the line. And he gave everything, I think, what I could expect from him, and he was also not part in us conceding for 3-3.”
