In San Donato Milanese, the announced fencing work has begun on the San Francesco area, the one identified by Milan for the construction of its new stadium. Work intended to continue for a couple of months and which will serve to keep drug addicts and homeless people at bay who have recently contributed to bringing degradation to the area between the A1 motorway and the Milan Rogoredo railway station. After having taken steps to reclaim and clean the land in the past months, Milan is taking a new concrete step in its project, which proceeds hand in hand with the dialogue with local and regional institutions, within the framework of the Program Agreement necessary to start the actual work. According to what the newspaper Il Cittadino reports, however, the controversy on the part of those opposed to the construction of the Milan stadium in San Donato does not subside. The No Stadium Committee met in recent days with the vice-mayor Francesco Vassallo, the president of Parco Agricolo Sud Milano Daniele Del Ben, the president of the mayors’ assembly Rino Pruiti and the councilors of the Metropolitan City. At the center of the comparison are the following points: land consumption, environmental impact, as well as the fear that the roads of Southern Milan will go haywire, to which is added mobility, but also the puzzle of parking and the repercussions on public order that could result from an intervention of this caliber. The protest also led to a collection of 3000 signatures and Fabio Songa (member of the No Stadium Committee and the Borgo di Chiaravalle association) spoke for this climate of dissent, and declared to Il Cittadino: “I cannot avoid the criticize the actions of the San Donato administration which initiated the program agreement for the approval of the urban planning variant on the stadium without granting us a hearing, rejecting the request for a municipal consultative referendum and without even convening a session of the land commission to discuss and delve deeper into the topic.”
