NEED TO KNOW
Mikayla Raines’ husband is sharing his first video since announcing her death.
Ethan Frankamp shared a short clip on the Instagram Stories of Save a Fox Rescue showing himself taking Mikayla’s pet fox Finnegan on a late-night walk as he discussed the challenges of carrying on with daily life after his wife’s death.
“One thing Mikayla would always insist on, no matter how long or terrible our day was or how exhausted we were, we always had to take Finnigan for a walk,” an emotional Ethan said while showing himself walking the rescue fox on a leash in a grassy area.
“Whether it was — we had been working for 18 hours straight or it was five degrees below zero,” he continued to explain through tears. “And I really didn’t feel like doing this tonight, but I feel bad for Finnegan and I didn’t want to do her a disservice by just… I mean, he loves his walks. He waits at the gate for his walks. So I came out and I put a collar on him, and I think he’s really happy to be out here.”

He went on to say over a different clip of Finnegan walking on a cement roadway that he hoped that “Mikayla can see this” and that she was “proud of me.”
“I know that I can never do what Mikayla does but at least I can do this, and I think it’s really good for him,” he added.
This marked Ethan’s first post since announcing Mikayla’s death by suicide at the age of 29 on Monday, June 23 on Instagram. He shared in a video that he found his wife and performed CPR on her for 15 minutes until first responders arrived and tried to revive her.

“She couldn’t bear what she was feeling any longer, and she ended her life,” he said in the video, adding that her death is “the biggest loss of my life.”
Ethan also alleged that in recent years Mikayla and her animal rescue non-profit Save a Fox, which she founded in 2017, had been the focus of an “online bullying campaign” from people she knew, including those who worked at “other animal sanctuaries.” He said things got worse in recent months when people “she considered her close friends” started joining in.

“[Mikayla] felt as if the entire world had turned against her,” Ethan said. “She couldn’t bear what she was feeling any longer. And she ended her life. And it breaks my heart that is selfless and devoted her life to animals could have so much negativity pointed at her,” he added.
Ethan concluded his video noting that if anyone felt “lost and hopeless,” they should “reach out to someone.” He also shared that he planned to continue Mikayla’s legacy and work to save foxes.
“We have suffered a loss that is unimaginable…” he said. “But I will continue her dream, and I hope to have your support going forward so that we can do good in her name.”
