Matias Vecino wants to return to Uruguay, but not now. The Lazio midfielder, in an interview given in his homeland to AUFTV, declared that he had no thoughts on moving city at the moment. In Rome he gets along well with his family and his idea is to stay at least until the end of his contract with the Biancocelesti. These are his words:
Now it’s time to prioritize my family. My life plan is to return to Uruguay. Today I don’t know, because my children grow up and have their friends here. For now my idea is to continue in Italy, because we feel at home. And at the moment I’m not looking beyond the contract with Lazio. There have been calls in the past, but not from Uruguay. I don’t rule out returning to play there, but then it will never just depend on me. If I were to return to Nacional I will have to be in good condition, because it is competitive and it is a club that demands you. We’ll see later.
GOODBYE TO THE NATIONAL TEAM – Statements that will certainly please the Lazio fans but also Tudor, who has relied heavily on the Uruguayan midfielder at the end of the season and has every intention of focusing on his experience in the next season too. Furthermore, Vecino recently also bid farewell to the national team. He wants to dedicate the final part of his career only to commitments with the club, leaving room for the new talents of Celeste: “Time has passed and it is normal for cycles to end. The new generations are arriving and you have to be honest with yourself. This is why I decided to quit. After the World Cup in Qatar I began to think that a new cycle would begin. That the time had come to give way to the generations that came behind hasty decision. I let some time pass. Then Marcelo Bielsa arrived, who always made me feel part of the group, but I realized that I had already given my all. After the friendly match with the Basque Country team I communicated my decision to the federation. Having played for Celeste was one of my greatest achievements and I feel like I have given everything to the national team is not something that goes hand in hand with the activity in the club. Being in both at the same time requires a lot of physical and mental effort. I will continue to play at club level for a few more years, but I felt that I could no longer give the team what it deserved.”
