India presses Moscow and Kyiv to secure Black Sea commercial routes

Share

India urged both Moscow and Kyiv to take measures to safeguard commercial shipping in the Black Sea. New Delhi warned that recent attacks on vessels have put Indian seafarers at risk, stressing the need for concrete steps to protect merchant crews and civilian maritime traffic.

The appeal from the Indian capital reflected immediate concerns about crew safety and the uninterrupted movement of goods. Disruptions to commercial routes can affect ship operations and the welfare of personnel on board; the Indian authorities have underscored the humanitarian dimension of protecting civilian mariners while calling for unhindered commercial access through the sea lanes.

Maritime observers note that secure navigation in the Black Sea is important for regional trade and for operators who rely on predictable routes. New Delhi’s request to the two capitals highlights how incidents at sea can create diplomatic pressure beyond the directly involved parties and places the safety of nationals working in international waters at the centre of its response.

New Delhi said it will continue to monitor the situation and to press for measures that reduce risks to crews and cargo. The Indian government is urging both sides to ensure safe passage for commercial vessels and to adopt practical steps to prevent harm to civilian seafarers while maritime operations continue in the area.
