The son of Duane Chapman — aka “Dog the Bounty Hunter” — has lost his job with the Priceville, Ala., police department after a high-speed chase left a teenager dead.
City officials said Garry Chapman’s termination followed an internal review and was upheld by Mayor Sam Heflin, according to WAFF 48, FOX54/Rocket City Now and News 19. He has appealed the decision, and a City Council hearing is set for Oct. 14.
The firing stems from a Sept. 6 pursuit in nearby Hartselle. Officers were chasing Archie Hale, who authorities said was driving under the influence, when his vehicle slammed into a minivan carrying four teenagers.
17-year-old Tristan Hollis was killed in the crash, PEOPLE previously reported.

Including Hollis, six people were rushed to hospitals after the collision, according to the outlets.
Hale was released from medical care and booked into Morgan County Jail on Sept. 11. He remains behind bars without bond on a murder charge, along with counts including: attempting to elude, possession with intent, DUI and reckless endangerment, according to a Morgan County District Attorney’s Office press release.
For Hollis’ mother, Rachel Moore, the pain is unimaginable.
“He was my only child,” Moore said in a public statement posted on Facebook. “Please pray for all the young men that were involved in this accident. Also, I ask for everyone to pray for the man, Archie Brandon Hale, that killed my sweet, precious son. Yes, he selfishly and maliciously took my son’s life, but in the end, my son is in a far better place than what is about to be bestowed amongst him.”

Chapman is now fighting to get his job back.
“The Supreme Court allows pursuit as long as you’re assessing danger throughout the pursuit. And it’s unfortunate that it turned out the way it did,” Scott Morro, Chapman’s attorney, told FOX54. “But Garry followed the law, and he followed the policy. We hope that the City Council, after the hearing, will see it our way and recognize that Chapman is an asset to their city and not a detriment. And so hopefully he’ll be reinstated.”
