Uniqlo's $150 Suit Punches Ten Times Above Its Price Tag

Right around this time last year, I wrote about a $150 Uniqlo suit that seemed to defy inflation, occasion, and, frankly, all logic. In the time since, literally everything feels like it’s become at least twice as expensive and half as stable. Not exactly suitable (heh) context for a repeat performance, right? Wrong. Because as of this month, Uniqlo has once again blessed us with a $150 suit that warrants your immediate attention, and at the risk of pigeonholing myself and my beat here, it might be even better than the last one.

The suit in question arrives via Uniqlo’s widely-beloved U line, a sub-label helmed by fashion-world heavyweights Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran. And true to their reputation as detail-obsessed design wonks, it looks like it should be quadruple the price.

The single-button jacket is cut from a crisp, lightweight cotton-nylon that drapes elegantly without compromising its shape when you’re on the move. The front of the jacket buttons a touch lower than you might be used to, but the added room just means you can have a little more fun picking out a shirt, and spend a little more time lurking by the buffet table. The back of the jacket is unvented, which might offend a few purists (an easily offended bunch, FWIW), but the presence of a vent would probably feel odd considering the general nonchalance of the ensemble. I trusted the size chart and the size chart delivered: I’m typically a 36” and the small fit me exactly as I had hoped—true in the shoulders and a touch loose in the body.
