Having now become a classic in the world of clap-back politics on Instagram, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton let loose on Donald Trump’s 100 days in the Oval Office, creating one of those comments sections where all hell broke loose. From a crashing stock market to threatening Social Security checks, she really did not hold back in her most obnoxiously sarcastic voice at all. The comments ranged from cheering, to conspiracy theories, to full-out keyboard warfare in the comments.

“In Trump’s first 100 days, he alienated us from our allies, crashed the stock market, decimated U.S. cancer research, expelled American toddlers, lost the Canadian election by proxy, and threatened your Social Security checks,” she said. “But at least he focused on the important stuff.” That last one was a chef’s kiss. Pure political shade you could munch popcorn on and watch this corner of the web explode into chaos.
The first one-off comment to blow up was from one @gabethefriendlyghost_ saying, “Brought back measles! Can’t forget about the measles!” and began an utterly unrelated discussion about vaccines. One user said that “12,000,000 unvetted illegals” caused an outbreak (that would amount to a factual no), while another replied, “Mexico has a 2 dose vaccination for MMR,” and, in consequence, insulted the first commentator by calling him a “Maggot.” Real classy! Of course, then it trolled its way through some polio jokes and Fox News references.
The thread was joined by @moj saying, “My all time favorite thing about you is the witty, sarcastic shade you throw. 😂 Should have been you.” Zombies. Hillary haters from every corner entered that thread. “One of the most corrupt politicians ever!” was one reply; another said just “False.” Oh internet. Oftentimes heated back-and-forths got another one to say, “Nobody trusts you, nobody respects you. Bye.” Feels, right?
Golf gags got triggered thanks to @durham_turner: “Forgot to mention winning his own golf championship 😂.” Defend away, MAGAs. One said he “took 5 minutes to drop a couple bombs on terrorists” amidst the game which was being pretty reasonable presidential behavior. Somewhere from an alternate universe, another launched into child-trafficking. Why not in this one? Because all Trump threads seem to lead to QAnon talking points.
Then arrived @blue_canadian1 crashing the party with some poetic statement of solidarity asserting that Canada’s election was a victory for America too. To which the replies? Gold. The opener for one went: “Your country has went to shit after Pedo Justin”; to another simply replied, “Shut up bot 🤖,” which, honestly, might be the most effective counterargument on the Internet. Somehow finding a way to shoehorn Bill Clinton allegations into the thread appeared to be fair game, though cold really: what is even relevant at this point?
Then, in descending order of weird, an anonymous @babymeolskey simply copied: “Don’t forget.. the Gulf of America! 🤣,” referring to an earlier occasion when Trump sought to rename the Gulf of Mexico itself. And among them: “That name is temporary,” what is a woman (???), roasting Trump’s supporters by saying “golf of America” to their faces. Gosh, internet never provides an opportunity to showcase utter nonsense.
Further highlights are @greggharrisonhoustonlawyer calling Trump “the smartest man in the universe” (his college professor was quite famous for saying otherwise), @jennndie referring to him as “the worst human of all time,” and @icriti joking that “Trump ate 34,987 big Macs while looking at 6’3″ and 486 lbs.” Hilariously, this was followed by a height debate as “He’s 5’10 at best” and “6’3 with the hair” had us in tears.
Heartwarming stuff, with @tiff_the_realtor just chiming in, “So glad to see you weighing in! @hillaryclinton ❤️”, and @kassirose letting go with “Gloves off Hillary.” Everybody will recognize, though, that the messy side of things was headlining the show. Germany during the Nazis-a lot of paper straw flexing pronouncement (we see you @amyvpt) was dropped in this comment section.

In the end, Clinton’s post achieved precisely what it was meant to do: provoke and remind people as again why she is the queen of political clapbacks. You can love her or hate her, but one thing’s for sure: no one does sarcastic political commentary like Hillary. The unhinged internet reactions were just a cherry on top for this perfectly chaotic social media moment.
